Here's what schools rarely mean: "There is no money in the building."
Here's what they usually mean: "Your offer doesn't map to any of the protected pots we're required to spend in a specific way."
Meanwhile, schools are sitting on:

- Sports Premium - £16,000 base + £10 per pupil, primary only
- SEND top‑ups - £6,000 - £26,000 per pupil, SENCo-controlled
- PTA funds - flexible but need visible parent value

The Deeper Problem
You're selling your product. You should be aligning to funding streams.
Schools can't spend from a protected pot without:
1. A defensible outcome
2. A measurable link to that outcome
3. A clear priority anchor (their One Big Change)
If you can't help them justify it, they won't move. It's not personal. It's structural.
The Transition
So stop asking: "Is there budget?"
Start asking: "Which funding stream does this align to?"
That one question changes the conversation.
It signals you understand how schools actually work.
And it forces you to know your offer well enough to answer it.
The Deeper Argument Schools Haven't Heard**
Schools spend an estimated £10bn annually on goods and services. Most flows to national chains. Very little reaches local businesses.
